September 19 love and fearToday's Positive Thought:-
You have two basic choices in life; love or fear. Choose love.Today's Positive Affirmation: I AM love and I express love in every thought, word, and deed.Today's Positive Visualization: As I take a slow and even breath, I allow myself to sense a spring of love bubbling up from my center. I imagine this love flowing throughout my body, mind, and emotions, healing and transforming every part of my life. In my mind's eye I see the love within me connecting to the love that is flowing throughout the world. I affirm that in this love there is nothing to fear. I trust that this Universal Source of love will protect and care for me at all times. I imagine myself going throughout my day sending and receiving love everywhere I go. In this love, I become a magnet for all the good things I deserve in life. I combine these images with the feelings of joy and let them go, knowing that they will create the good things I am visualizing and thinking. /
![]() WATCH TOWERS: The Watch Towers is a term that is originally from the Enochian branch of Ceremonial Magic, now incorporated into many "Traditions" of Wicca, these are the four elemental "directions" or "quarters. Watch Towers is not a part of more Traditional Witchcraft, but within Wicca some traditions will call the Watch Towers to protect the Circle during its formation. Each Watch Tower has a correspondence between the compass point, element, and color associations. This varies from Wiccan Tradition to Wiccan Tradition. WICCA: Wicca is the fairly new religion of Witches. It is an eclectic blend of beliefs and religious and magical theologies. It has some basic roots in Traditional Witchcraft but is not one and the same as Traditional Witchcraft. Created by Gerald B. Gardner in the 1940?s to 1950?s. And currently one of the fastest growing religious faiths today. It is a beautiful earth based and life affirming religion that believes in both the Male and Female aspects of Divine WICCAN: A Wiccan is someone that practices the religion of Wicca WICCAN REDE: And ye harm none, do what thou will. It is the Wiccan law of Harm None. WICCANING: A Wiccaning or sometimes referred to as a Paganing is the Wiccan similar to that of a Christian Christening. It is a presentation of an infant to the Gods and the Coven. WITCH: A Witch is a practitioner of Witchcraft. However in our modern times a Witch can also be someone that practices Wicca. The term Witch is more of a title indicating ones path in life. If you take upon yourself the title of witch remember that it is not an easy path to walk, and with this title comes responsibilities to self and to our Earth. If you are strong enough and brave enough to call yourself a Witch, then be strong enough and true enough to take responsibility for your actions, good or bane.

In pagan beliefs, the mighty oak is a tree of royalty, strength and fertility. Its noble attributes have long been harnessed for use in magic. The oak has long been used in spells and charms to attract wealth, stamina, and protection. It is a tree of heroic height and girth- the most impressive ones can be found where there is rich soil. The green man- who is a personification of the spirit of the woods and seasonal fertility celebrated in Pagan rights- is also said to reside in oak trees. Sacrifice of kings The oak is linked to kingship through a myth that describes how the tallest tree was struck by lightening, and allowed the sun to come thru the grove, this is similar to what was expected of kings in the med evil era. A tree by ancient Lore The word druid originates from the Celtic word "duir" meaning oak or door, it is believed that the oak was a portal to the spirit world, and the nature gods were worshiped in oak tree groves. Other deities linked to the oak include the Irish Dagda, the Norse god, Thor, and the Greek Goddess, Hecate. OAK MONTH The Oak is the King of Trees and sacred to the Celts and Druids. It has long been considered bad luck to cut it down or to take the living wood. Since early times it has been associated with Herne who was thought to have practised magic under one, and with the stag, symbol of the Horned God. It is also sacred to Thor and acorns are said to protect a house from storms and lightning. It was sacred to the ancient Greeks and the Romans dedicated it to Jupiter, and King Arthur's round [able was said to have been made of a single slice of Oak. The Oak is strongly associated with the Element of Earth and the physical realm. The Oak represents the sacrifice of personal freedom in order to take up magical work. The Oak is slow-growing and capable of living well over a hundred years. Its hard wood was used to build ships, and burnt to provide charcoal for metalwork. The bark was used in leather making and to create dyes of purple, black, yellow and browns. The young wood is used to make furniture. Acorns have long been noted for their antiseptic properties and used in folk medicine to dress wounds. They have also been used to make flour and a form of coffee. The inner bark makes a gargle for throat and sinus problems. The leaves make a soothing dressing for sore eyes. To protect your home from all manner of ills, make an equal-armed cross, bound with red thread, of two pieces of Oak. To bring prosperity, plant an acorn the day before the New Moon. Getting On TrackTrains Are Like People The rails that crisscross the countryside and cut through cities have long captured people's imaginations. Just the idea of taking a ride on a luxury train, an express commuter line, or a cargo train can evoke a sense of freedom, adventure, or romance. Trains are like people in that they must inevitably arrive at their destinations. They make scheduled and unscheduled stops along the way and move at their different speeds. Some trains can travel for hours and are mindful of only a single destination; other trains meander from busy stop to busy stop. The route and purpose of any train may change as the years go by.

Green Crystals: Healing and BalanceThose of us who don't live in tropical or eternally moderate climates reach a point during the winter when we long for the color green. (For me, this longing starts in late November.) We want to feel soft, springy grass beneath our feet and see the trees cloaked in lush, green leaves. Our heartfelt desire for greenness is very natural. Green, among its other properties, is the color of healing and balance, and this is one of the reasons it is associated with the fourth (heart) choker. While balance is the key to the powerful functioning of all the chakras, balance itself is a primary function of the heart choker. Situated between the three lower and three upper chakras, its task is to blend the primal energies of physical connection, emotional connection, and connection to personal power with the mental and spiritual energies of the upper chakras. This keeps us from becoming either fixated on physical existence as the only reality or from wishing we were anywhere but in our bodies. The heart also balances the polarities of masculine and feminine we experience within ourselves. It teaches us how to add the element of compassion to our exercise of will, how to balance aggression and receptivity, how to be both firm and nurturing, and to identify our own needs with those of others. With a balanced fourth chakra, we learn to experience the peace which rises from self-acceptance, the inner harmony which stems from self love. The Elements of GreenWhen we long for the color green, we are seeking more than visual refreshment. Green is a blend of yellow, a lower-chakra color, which represents personal power, self-esteem, and the drive to accomplish, with the primarily mental energies of the color blue. Light blue relates to communication with others, while dark blue is associated with psychic communication, and the connection with one's inner self. In a sense, green symbolizes a balance between action focused on the outer world and the more contemplative modes of both verbal and nonverbal communication. In general, green is a color which symbolizes new life, growth, and regeneration. Based on these qualities, it is also related to healing, on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. Abundance is related to growth, and is a form of health in that having that which you desire and have worked/prayed/meditated to have creates balance and satisfaction, two conditions which are a necessary part of health and well being. The relationship of creativity to the color green is connected to the ability not only to have interesting ideas, but to plant and harvest them. In essence, the fourth-chakra expression of creativity is one of nurturing. ![]() What is Understanding? Well by understanding you can feel it, you can sense it, you mentally comprehend it and you can psychologically relate to it in some fashion through experience in a similar form. Understanding is a key part of our daily lives. Although not everyone has it. Understanding comes through experience and it is these experiences that help all of us learn, grow and be able to confront and handle different situations. Understanding also goes hand and hand with communication; they are integral parts with-in each other. It is these processes that are the most fundamental and yet the most improperly used concepts. If we were all able to understand and communicate and use these two integral parts of life in harmony then you would see a society with much more balance and harmony. There would still be disagreements and heated arguments and so forth but they wouldn’t break down as much to cause great conflict and even wars. So with using understanding and being able to comprehend and feel it’s expressions you are more able to better assess the situation and not readily jump to conclusions or bring forth misconceptions, which can lead to heated arguments, wars, end of relationships, Ect. All be it that still may happen but less likely since you now have a broader perspective on it or “understanding”. You will start to find in life that a lot of concepts, Ideas and thoughts go hand and hand, and are a part of each other. It’s not only related to understanding and communication but a great many things in life. And as you start to see how many things are related to each other no matter how off the wall and in opposite directions they may be, you then begin to get a better understanding of a bigger piece of the picture(life). Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the

On Samhain Eve, when the veil of illusion which separates our world from that of the spirits is parted, our thoughts naturally turn to our passed over loved ones. To help assure that your beloved dead are with you this Samhain, try working a simple spell using a portal incense consecrated to this purpose, and an incantation designed to reach their wandering ears. The incense should contain two parts lavender, one part sage, one half part cinnamon, and a dash of either wormwood or yarrow. As you mix the incense, be sure to visualize it as a gateway for only your own loving family. You will need to have on hand one single, unlit candle for this rite. When you are ready to begin cast your usual circle. Place your insence toward the north or west (the direction to represent the Land of the Dead). Sit or stand in the center of the circle and cast another circle large enough to encompass just you. Remain in this inner circle and spend a few moments mentally attuning yourself to the spirit world. When you are ready to start the rite, burn one third of the incense and being the following evocation: Hear my cry, my ancestors. On this most magical night of the year, I open for you the portal back into my world. The veil is parted wide, the feast awaits. Come beloved ancestors, and join in the ancient rites. (light another third of the incense and continute) Come to me in love. Come to this plane in peace. Come with the blessing of Lord and Lady whom we will praise together this hallowed eve. The door is open, the beacon is lit (light the candle now), the way is clear. Arise, blessed dead, and celebrate with me. Light the remaining incense in the coals and await the coming of your ancestors. ![]() If there is light in the soul, there will be beauty in the person.

~ Chinese Proverb Egyptian Goddess - Nut
Nut is the Egyptian Goddess of the sky, who was married to Her brother Geb (God of the Earth). Nut had 5 children: Osiris, Isis, Horus, Set and Nephthys. She is usually depicted in artwork as a star-covered woman whose body arches and stretches over the earth, holding up the sky. Her fingers and toes touched the earth at the 4 cardinal points (north, south, east, west).
Nut stays in the sky during the day, but comes down to the earth to be with Her husband at night, which is what brings the darkness and stars. She is also shown as a cow in the sky, and shares many qualities with Hathor.
Go outside tonight and see what constellations you can find, or just admire the stars.

Kindness canSomewhere, somehow, the kindness of another person has changed your life for the better. You already know by direct experience that kindness has the power to reach far, far beyond itself.
Even a small kindness can make a big impact. For once a kindness is offered, it takes on a life of its own. Kindness can bring a blessed light to the darkest of times. Kindness can give comfort, direction, inspiration and hope where there was none before. Kindness can reach into the most cynical, hardened hearts. Kindness can be a testament to life's goodness that is impossible to refute or deny. Kindness can melt away anxiety and build up confidence. Genuine kindness is a positive force that cannot be ignored. If you wish to make a positive contribution to life, kindness will take you far. Always, when it seems that nothing will make a difference, kindness can. -- Ralph Marston 1. Take your fears to God and He will help you face them. An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.
Bill Vaughan The object of a new year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul. G.K. Chesterton Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us. Hal Borland I do think New Year's resolutions can't technically be expected to begin on New Year's Day, don't you? Since, because it's an extension of New Year's Eve, smokers are already on a smoking roll and cannot be expected to stop abruptly on the stroke of midnight with so much nicotine in the system. Also dieting on New Year's Day isn't a good idea as you can't eat rationally but really need to be free to consume whatever is necessary, moment by moment, in order to ease your hangover. I think it would be much more sensible if resolutions began generally on January the second. Helen Fielding, Bridget Jones's Diary A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. New Year's Day is every man's birthday. Charles Lamb Many people look forward to the new year for a new start on old habits. Time has no divisions to mark its passage, there is never a thunder-storm or blare of trumpets to announce the beginning of a new month or year. Even when a new century begins it is only we mortals who ring bells and fire off pistols. Thomas Mann Never tell your resolution beforehand, or it's twice as onerous a duty. John Selden New Year's eve is like every other night; there is no pause in the march of the universe, no breathless moment of silence among created things that the passage of another twelve months may be noted; and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this evening that come with the coming of darkness on other nights. Alfred, Lord Tennyson, 1850 Every man should be born again on the first day of January. Start with a fresh page. Take up one hole more in the buckle if necessary, or let down one, according to circumstances; but on the first of January let every man gird himself once more, with his face to the front, and take no interest in the things that were and are past. Henry Ward Beecher The new year begins in a snow-storm of white vows. George William Curtis "I write, others judge whatever way they want to..." -Albert Camus June 06 WolfWolf Teaching,A Guide to the Sacred Wolves have been long regarded by Native Americans as teachers or pathfinders. Wolves are fiercely loyal to their mates, and have a strong sense of family while maintaining individualism. In the stars, Wolf is represented by the Dog, Sirius, thought by many abroginal tribes to be the home of the "Ancients." It seems to be through this connection that Wolf has come to be associated with ancient teachings. Wolves are probably the most misunderstood of the wild animals. Tales of cold bloodedness abound, in spite of the their friendly, social and intelligent traits. They are truly free spirits even though their packs are highly organized. They seem to go out of their way to avoid a fight. One is rarely necessary when a shift in posture, a growl, or a glance gets the point across quite readily. Traditionally, someone with Wolf Medicine has a strong sense of self, and communicates well through subtle changes in voice inflection and body movements. They often find new solutions to problems while providing stability and support that one normally associates with a family structure. Dog Loyalty and Protection Man's best friend... One of the tribal stories said that when the Spirits got ready to leave the Earth, they drew a line in the dirt. On one side was man and on the other the spirits from the Upper Worlds. Just then a great fissure was created by the line, and man was no longer able to cross over to the spirit realm. As they stood there, the fissure grew and widened, and at the very last minute "dog" jumped across to stand with man. All of the Southwest tribes had dogs. It has been reported that all breeds of dogs are descendants of the wolf, but even though the early dogs were considered part "wild", they were fiercely loyal to their owners. Historically, dogs have been portrayed as the guardians of ancient secrets, hidden treasures, and infants. Volumes have been written about the dog, but someone touched by the healing energies of loyalty can tell you of the "power" of Dog Medicine . Horse Power The horse has been pictured as an animal with supernatural power in many cultures. In the Native American tradition, Shamans fly other realms on mythical horses. Before horses were introduced by the Spanish, the life of the plains tribes was much more earth bound, having to carry all of their belongings from place to place. With the arrival of the horse, they were free to move and travel great distances with these beasts of burden. People with Horse Medicine often carry the burdens of other people. They are strong and able to "bare up" under the strain of difficult circumstances. ANNUALS- a plant that grows from seed, flowers and then dies all in one growing season. When Your Spells Don't Work
Ever noticed that not all your spells work perfectly every time? Many a non-Pagan has asked me over the years, whether or not all of this stuff is real. Do spells really work?Anyway, the answer is "yes". Spells and magick do work. Unfortunately, many folks then go on to assume that also means spells work exactly how we want them every single time. Now, that is not true. Casting spells or performing magick is a skill like any other. Few people can pick up a trumpet and play like Louis Armstrong on their first try. It takes time, practice, experience and knowledge to make magick work for you. A novice should not expect all of their spells to be successful and immediate. Far from it. If you find that a spell has had no results, it may just be that you haven't seen any. For example, if you cast a spell for an increase in money, your magick may actually prevent a loss of money that you weren't expecting. Or an opportunity may have presented itself to you that you didn't recognize. Or your spell is working it's way farther into the future than you had planned. Some might say that a spell will not work if the Gods don't feel that it's in your best interest for it to succeed. I'm not sure if I believe this viewpoint or not. Though I feel that Deity does watch over and protect us, I just can't accept that they would interfere in such a direct manner. I could be wrong, of course. An of course, there are the spells that cause things to happen, but not what we were expecting or wanting. Don't blame the magick. This often happens when you are vague in your spell wording, or let your mind wander away during the ritual. Again, practice makes perfect! So if you are trying new spells without much success, all I can say is to keep trying. Take some time away from spellwork to do more research, and perhaps get an idea why your magick isn't working. You could also practice some meditation to focus your mind, or experiment with other kinds of spells. Most importantly, don't get discouraged. Reversed Perceptions We all have issues, as well as undesirable qualities or traits that we don't like about ourselves. Most of us realize that we are not perfect and that it is natural to have unpleasant thoughts, motivations, desires, or feelings. However, when a person does not acknowledge these, they may ascribe those characteristics to someone else, deeming other people instead as angry, jealous, or insecure. In psychological terms, such blaming and fault finding is called projection. ppl start on their journey to enlightenment even b4 they know it but once they realize the path they r on, they may start actively seeking out the 'truth'. with so many 'schools' out there, ancient and modern, disillusion is more than possible! many get stunted when they follow the path of unhollistic teachings.. even with ancient teachings one is not completely safe since these teachings were developed at a very different time and the world was different and therefore need to b reinterpreted which many r incapable of doing due to its complexity! while with modern teachings there is the risk of them being commercial phoneys out to make money, and if not, then many read them, learn a word or 2 and convince themselves that they kno it all cos that is the fashion today! so that the next time i'm at a cocktail party or with a group of ppl i may show off and separate myself from everyone else! with all that aside, back to main topic, but for ppl who r sincere in their search but have been coned or misled or have been goin round in circles.. can it b too late for someone to find the right path? we all kno that there really is no 'right' path but when and how can ppl realize that the path they started on will not take them to enlightenment but only appears to? when do u kno that the 'school' u've been going to maybe teaching u a lot but u'll never b able to graduate?! and if u do realize this, is it too late? i imagine it's never too late but just like everything in life, to learn something new is much easier than trying to mend what has been wrongly learned. but it requires admitting it (to oneself) so as to move forward and look aroundon the path to enlightenment it's not so easy to recognise the comprehensive from the phoney schools. every school claims to b right! i imagine that the best way is find ur own path throu reading at all schools! questioning each school and not getting too hung up on any particular school. welcome every opportunity to understand and learn irrespective of the school!i'll take this opportunity to mention that what's great about this group is that no particular school is endorsed over another. we're all here discussing things to help us come closer to enlightenment though we r all influenced by different schools. we r not hung up over say buddhism or zen or whatever, and forgeting that these r only instruction manuals to attain enlightenment. i imagine that we've all thought about this and continue to do so since we mix in with different ppl with different backgrounds and different ideology (and in different groups!) would luv to hear what others think about this! ![]() Microcosm Of The Universe

©by Gerina Dunwich Your Magickal Cat Now, this is for inviting a cat totem to your dreams. It is to be performed before going to bed. Items: White candle [alter, taper, or pillar] Catnip Essential Oil [varation: Lavender or Heliotrope Essential Oil] Catnip herb Charcoal Block Fireproof Incense burner Light the candle and then the charcoal block [till glowing], spinkle the catnip herb on the charcoal. Close your eyes and clear your mind [relaxation exercise is good here] focus on the image of your cat in your mind's eye. When it is right begin speaking to your cat totem, either verbal or mental and invite the cat totem to your dreams. Sincerity is important here, as if you come across skeptical, fearful and/or doubtful it will not come. Feelings and intentions are never hidden in the spirit realm. After requesting the presence of the cat totem, give plenty of thanks and extinguish the candle with a snuffer or wet fingers and go to sleep. Upon waking up write down what you see in your dream. If any type of feline [including big cats] appeared in your dream or nightmare you have been successful. Pay attention to all of the allegory you saw in the dream as well as the smallest of symbols as they all carry an omen for you to pay attention too. If another animal came then it means you are to experience a different animal at this time in your path. If nothing appears do not be discouraged, it takes time, or it may not be time for you to work with a totem as of yet. You will know when the time comes they will come to you. PENTACLE AND PENTAGRAM
The pentacle is probably the most important symbol in witchcraft. It is a five pointed star with a single point facing upright. A written or drawn pentacle is a pentagram.
|
In rituals and magic the pentacle is a round disk of earthenware, wax, silver, or clay. It is inscribed with magic symbols including a pentagram and is used to consecrate the magic circle. In some rituals the high priestess may asume the pentacle position. Some witches may wear a pentacle as a sign of their religeon. Some covens use the pentacle as the sigal of the witches who are initiated in to the second degree. The pentagram is the witches symbol of power and protection and used to control elemental forces. Pentagrams are usually drawn in the air with a sword. The method used to draw the pentagram depends on its purpose. Such as pentagrams to invoke are different from pentagrams to banish. Pentagrams are also used in meditation exercises where each point of the star is associated with a specific quality, attribute, concept, emotion or name of a pagan deity.

![]() Felines And Dreams ... Cats and Christmas Long ago, people in Germany once believed that a dream involving cats at Christmas was to be considered a warning from the gods. It indicated that within a year someone would become seriously ill, and this would strike within the upcoming year. Black Cats A black cat in a dream can denote either good luck or misfortune, depending upon which you associate a black cat with. In some parts of the world, black cats are regarded as luck~bringers, while in other places they are feared and linked to omens, of bad luck and evil. Likewise, a black cat is often associated with the traditional sorceress and her powers. If anyone associates them with the dark forces of evil, then the dream may well serve as a warning to watch out for evil influences, the presence of negativity, or anything that is generally regarded as being bad. The symbol of the black cat may also point to the dreamer's own hidden dark side, or warn against an impending harm. However, if an individual associates a black cat and the witch with the Earth~honoring Craft of the Wise {Wicca, Neo-Paganism, and so forth}, the dream symbol would then be of a more positive nature, representing perhaps the benevolent magickal powers, healing enegries, great wisdom, and sacredness of the Divine Feminine. It is said to be a sign of good luck when witches dream about a black cat, but a bad omen for those who are not of the Craft. According to the old occult method of dream analysis and divination that proposes dreams reveal precisely the opposite, to dream about a black cat on Friday the Thirteenth { supposedly the unluckiest day of the year} would actually be the luckiest dream that anyone could ever hope to experience! Cats Eyes A dream involving cats' eyes is said to be representative of either the unconscious or the anima { the female half of the soul or mind, symbolically connected with the feminine elements of Earth and Water}. Cats' eyes are mysterious, mystical, and incredibly magickal by nature. They are believed by some people to the windows to an enchanted fairyland or spirit-world, and they are often linked with the Moon {another symbol of feminity, the Goddess, and the Witch}. Cats That Teach Us Cats that appear in our dreams to teach us or warn us of something often accomplish their mission through any of the old figures of speech that are attached to them. Obvious meanings can be found in such phrases as: 'letting the cat out of the bag', 'playing a game of cat and mouse', being a 'copycat', living 'under the cat's paw', and so forth. When attempting to interpret a dream, especially one that may appear vague or especially puzzling, all possiblities must be taken into consideration. Dreaming of Being a Cat To dream of that you are a cat is indicative of a transformation. Changes, such as those that occur in one's lifestyle, career, relationships, and so forth, can be either good or bad, depending upon the final outcome of the dream. If, as a cat in your dream, you encounter unpleasent experiences but has a happy ending, it may be interpreted that a recent change, or one soon to transpire, will be accomplished by difficulities or setbacks. However, the end result will be a positive one for you. Kittens Kittens are cute and cuddly, and when they appear in our dreams the symbolize new beginnings, a period {or need for} growth, innocence, and playfulness, or a desire to return to childhood or be nurtured. Kittens as a negative dream symbol may stand for immaturity, vulnerbility, annoying "kittenish" behavior, turning a "blind eye" to something {kittens are often thought of as being blind until their eyes open"}. They may also indiciate a old expression, " I nearly had kittens!"}. To witness a mother cat giving birth to kittens is symbolic of the birth of something new. For a woman, it may also indicate a desire to bear children, or it may serve as an omen connected with pregnancy. Cat Attacks It is said that when a cats claws at you in a dream or in a nightmare, this is a hidden warning that you will soon become the victim of betrayel. The same applies to all dreams in which you are bitten by a cat or pursued by it like prey. White Cats Although white cats are generally considered to be the bringers of good luck in most parts fo the world, when they show up in a dream it usually indicates that a loss of some kind will soon take place if you do not act with care. Sick or Injured Cats To dream about a sick, injured, or dying cat may foretell emotional stress, illness, or a great disappointment. To see a dead cat in one's dream is generally thought of as a bad sign, although some say that death is actually a dream symbol for transformation and new beginnings. To dream about killing a cat may indicate repressed hostility toward a mother or other female authority figure, or sibliling rivarly with a sister. It may also express the dreamer's resentment of his or her feminine side or even indicate a repression of intuitive powers or creativity. Cats with more than one tail A cat that possesses more than one tail is a very magickal and powerful dream symbol. { Incidentally, in Irish folklore there exist double tailed and ten-tailed cats possessing the greatest of magickal powers}. Such a dream may symbolize the increase of the dreamer's spiritual energy. Cats' tails are essential for balance; therefore to dream about either a tailless cat or a cutting off of a cat's tail is an indication that something in your life is out of balance. If you are unsure of what the cause of the imbalance is, possible clues may be found in the other symbols of the dream. A Cat Catching a Mouse Success, swiftness, or the ability to make quick decisions is said to be denoted by the dream of a cat catching mouse---a pastime relished by most predatory felines. To dream of a cat engaged in its other favorite activity---sleeping---is an indication that the turmoil in your life will soon be replaced by tranquility. It may also be trying to tell you that you are in need of rest. Speaking Cats Dreams that involve a cat speaking in a human voice are believed to be highly prophetic in nature. They elevate the cat to the status of divine messenger and need to be carefully analyzed for they often contain an important message from the spirit-dimension, the psychic realm, other worlds, or even divine beings. To interpret such a dream, the words spoken by the cat must be considered. {Meanings can be either very clear, or obscured by arcane symbolism.} Additionally, any other symbols that may appear in the dream should not be overlooked for they can be of equal significance. Flying Cats To see a flying or winged cat in your dream indicates a strong connection with the psychic realms. For witches with a cat familiar, and others who share a closeness with a feline companion, it may actually be an experience indicative of a journey into the astral plane with the cat in its astral form serving as a companion, guide, or protector. Caged Cats A caged cat is a dream symbol representing a subconscious feeling of being trapped in an unpleasent situation or perhaps in a boring rut. A caged cat that cries, hisses, or meows loudly is most likely a symbol of you, or a part of yourself that is crying out for liberation. Bathing Cats Bathing a cat should be an indication that a cleansing of the body, mind, or spirit is in order. Feeding a Cat Feeding a cat may symbolize a need or desire for spiritual nourishing. Forgetting to feed a cat often indicates that the dreamer is forgetting to care about a part of herself. Egyptian Cat An Egyptian cat symbolizes great psychic power and often appears in the dreams of gifted seers, clairvoyants, and those who possess psychic talents that are not yet recognized. To dream that such a cat inspires fear within you may reveal an inner fear of either psychic phenomena in general or your own psychic abilities, determinable by other factors of the actual dream. To be visited in a dream by an Egyptian cat may also signify a spiritual or magickal connection between the dreamer and the ancient Egyptian goddess Bastet {a cat headed deity whom Herodotus referred to as the "Mistress of the Oracle". {Incidentally, the Egyptian word for cat, mau, means "to see".} Monster Cat A terrifying monster cat appearing in a dream or in a nightmare can be a symbol of feared and repressed desire, drive, or emotion, or it may actually be a fearful situaltion or a painful truth in disquise that is comfronting or pursuing you. To dream that you are slaying a monster cat indicates that you are in the process of overcoming your fear; however, to dream that you are tying to escape or hide from the beast indicates that you are failing to deal with the situation at hand, unable to face your fears, or unwilling to accept the truth. This dream symbol may also represent the loathsome and "monstrous" characteristics of certain individuals who play a key role in your life. Psychic Cat A cat being the psychic animal that it is, often represents the dreamer's own psychic or intuitive aspects, or it points to a person of a psychic nature who is connected in some way to the dreamer. Sometimes a cat or kitten in a dream actually represents the dreamer and shows the role that he plays in certain situations or in relation to others. Therefore, when attempting to interpert a cat-dream it is important to consider the animal's attitude, emotions, apperance, situation, age, and so on to help focus the message of the dream. We may pay close attention to our dreams and the symbolic messages they hold, we will be rewarded with a better understanding of our hidden feelings, fears, and desires, and we will be able to make full use of our conscious existence through greater self-awareness and self-healing. SEKHMET Ancient Egyptian Goddess ©1996 Phoenix & Arabeth The ancient Egyptian goddess Sekhmet is known as the Eye of Ra. She is the power that protects the good and annihilates the wicked. Sekhmet is the wrathful form of Hathor (goddess of joy, music, dance, sexual love, pregnancy and birth). With leonine head, female human body and the strength of her father, she is the noontime sun--- intense blinding heat. In Tibet she is known as Senge Dong-ma, lion-headed dakini, "Guardian of the Secret Tantric Teachings". She is called Simhavaktra, in India where she also has a male reflection in the lion-headed incarnation of Vishnu, Narasimha. Pure shakti, she is doubtless a close relative to lion-mounted Durga, "Keeper of the Flame". Indeed, another Egyptian title for Sekhmet is Nesert, the flame. In the ancient Near East she was called Anat, Ashtoreth and Astarte. To the Old Kingdom Egyptians, Nu was the divine father of the primordal waters from whence Ra, the sun, came forth. Ra gave birth to Shu, god of the wind, and Tefnut who was called "the spitter" because she sent the rain. Together Shu and Tefnut were the Twins of our heavenly constellations. Tefnut and Sekhmet both have human female form with a head of the lion and both are recorded as daughters of Ra by the Egyptians. Sekhmet is perhaps a later manifestation of Tefnut, but in any event they are one and the same. Sekhmet, goddess Hathor, is the daughter he plucked from his head and sent out into the universe to avenge his anger. Nu spoke, "Let thine Eye go forth against those who are rebels in the kingdom." Then the gods spoke together, "Let thine eye go forth against these rebels. When It cometh down from heaven, no human eye can be raised against it." Sekhmet/Hathor, in the form of a lioness, hurled herself upon the men who had rebelled against Ra. She attacked them with such fury that the sun god feared she might exterminate the entire human race and begged her to stop the carnage. She had no ears to hear it. So Ra spilled 7,000 jugs containing a magic potion composed of beer and pomegranate juice in her path. Sekhmet, mistook the red liquid for human blood, lapped it up and become too drunk to continue the slaughter. On the feast day of Hathor/Sekhmet as many jugs of reddened beer were offered as there were priestesses of the sun. Mistress and lady of the tomb, gracious one, destroyer of rebellion, mighty one of enchantments. Her body draped in red, Sekhmet faces West; her sister-daughter Bast in green, personification of the domestic cat, faces East. Sekhmet is the triad goddess of Memphis with her husband Ptah, god of arts and crafts. Nefertum was their son and the third member of the triad. Ptah is the creative potter-god who shaped the world and heavens assisted by the seven wise worker-dwarfs of Khnemu. The Egyptian Goddess was the called "the terrible one", the Powerful, the Beloved of Ptah. She represented the destroying power of the Sun and was crowned with a disk and coiled cobras. Although she was the goddess of war and battles, she was also patroness of physicians and bone-setters. As an aspect of Hathor, she once nearly annihilated humans for disrespect to Ra. At this time of year, when the Sun's rays are weakest, Sekhmet presents a more gentle side. Like many Sun gods, her life and powers seem to ebb and flow with the yearly cycles of the Sun. However, Sekhmet is never to be treated lightly. Her powers always deserves the utmost respect and consideration before calling upon her aid. In Egyptian legend it is said she torments the evil and law-breakers in the Underworld. Today, she can be called upon to right wrongs, not by narrow standards, but by her more expansive ones. She is a protector of the under-dog and the helpless. Social status means nothing to her when she set out to balance the scales of justice. Lasik Los Angeles
